How To Achieve Stage Makeup

Since I will be taking part in the dance number of our high school batch opening dance number, I will need to once again touch up and practice my makeup skills. The very reason why I seriously wanted to learn putting makeup on myself is the fact that I hate getting ready super early for an event just to have my face done. Next is a list of bad experiences that I don’t ever want to happen again…eye shadow too dark, oily skin, zits, flat-looking face, etc. It is not cheaper, mind you. If you’ll only be using makeup once a year to attend weddings or events, having your makeup done by a professional is still the most cost effective choice.

I’ve already concocted my very own makeup looks for my different moods, outfits, and events but realized I lack one: Stage Makeup. So today I google stage makeup and no flashback makeup.

We were sent pegs of what eye look to wear for the event so I went to youtube to see tutorials on how to achieve them. The first one being, a silver eye look with dark outer corner. I tried it, it was pretty, but not strong enough on stage. My other batch mates figured the silver would get washed out once the light hits it. The second peg is a smokey eye with a silver inner corner. I’ve never been a fan of this because I veer away from gray, brown, blue, green and black eye shadow. I feel these dark colors make me look drab and older. But hey, I wouldn’t want to look all washed out and like I just woke up once on stage so I am going to make this work! Simply put, compared to everyday makeup, stage makeup is heavier, darker and more pigmented so that it can be seen from afar.

The other item I googled is no flashback makeup. Here are some of the tips I’ve gathered so far:

  1. Do not use face products with spf/sun protection.
  2. Do not use products with the ingredient Silica/Silicone.
  3. Do not use concealer/foundation that is more than 3 shades lighter than your skin tone. One to two shades lighter only is best.
  4. Do not use or apply concealer that is too thick.
  5. Do not overbake. Bake for only 5 minutes or less.
  6. Use highlighter that is close or goes with your skin tone.

So there, with these tips on hand, I will do my trial stage makeup soon to see if I can achieve it without looking like a panda, hahaha!
